In a world where motorcycling has become an integral part of human life, there are motorcycle dealers that are merely present in the marketplace, and there are others who have set themselves apart from the rest in becoming “destination” dealers. A destination dealer has become known to many as a ride’s final destination that encompasses tremendous views along its route of travel. Cox’s Harley-Davidson® has been and remains a true destination dealer, located in the heart of the Piedmont-Triad region of North Carolina.
The original facility is located in a two-bay garage situated next door to Recil's home, located on Crestview Church Road in rural Asheboro, NC. Recil is also employed as a mechanic at a local mill during the day and runs the dealership in the evenings.
Recil leaves his position at the mill to operate the store full-time with his wife, Betty.
The first addition is added to the original garage giving Cox's Harley-Davidson® its showroom.
Poochie and his older brother Jerry race Harley-Davidson® motorcycles on the dirt-track racing circuit.
Recil and Betty's two sons, Jerry Cox and Gary "Poochie" Cox, join the business full-time.
Jerry has a motorcycle racing accident that leads to his passing.
Cox's Harley-Davidson® becomes part of a group of dealers to charter membership into the Harley® Owners Group.
Poochie's wife Jan, joins the family business full-time, by managing the dealership's administration and finances. The showroom is added onto for the second time.
Poochie and Jan's oldest son, Robbie, enters the family business, adding a third generation.
Poochie and Jan become the sole owners of Cox's Harley-Davidson® after the passing of Betty and Recil's impending retirement.
